We will pick you up from your hotel. You will travel in a comfortable and air-conditioned vehicle towards Cairo. Once you arrive in Cairo, our first visit of the two-day Cairo excursion will be the step pyramid of Saqqara. The step pyramid of Saqqara of the ancient Egyptian king Djoser from the 3rd dynasty of the Old Kingdom around 2650 BC is the oldest of the Egyptian pyramids. During his 19-year reign, Djoser had a monumental tomb built that had never existed before.
The step pyramid was built entirely of limestone. The burial chamber was built 28 meters deep and consists of precisely hewn rose granite blocks in four layers. We then visit the alabaster sphinx and the colossal statue of Ramses II. The Alabaster Sphinx is located in the town of Memphis, about 24 kilometers south of Cairo. The Alabaster Sphinx dates from the time of Amenophis II and is 8 meters long.
The colossal statues of Ramses II are limestone statues and are still 10 meters high today. Next we drive to a nice local restaurant for lunch. After lunch we drive to the famous pyramids of Giza. The pyramids of Giza were built around 2620 to 2500 BC. The pyramid field of Giza has been an important cemetery since the 1st dynasty.
The pyramids of Giza are among the most famous and oldest surviving structures of mankind. They stand on the western edge of the Nile Valley. The largest and probably most famous pyramid is that of Pharaoh Cheops. He ruled from around 2620 to 2580 BC. The Cheops pyramid was built from around three million stone blocks. The middle pyramid is that of Pharaoh Chephren, who ruled from around 2558 to 2532 BC. The smallest of the three pyramids of Giza is that of Pharaoh Mykerinos, who ruled from around 2532 to 2503 BC. Enjoy a fantastic view of Cairo from the plateau. Now our next item on the agenda is a visit to the nearby Sphinx.
The Sphinx has risen out of the sand of the Egyptian desert for more than four millennia, and for most of that time it was covered by the sand of the Egyptian desert except for its head, which helped to preserve it. The nose and goatee have broken off. The Sphinx represents a reclining lion with a human head and was probably built in the 4th Dynasty around 2520 to 2494 BC. The Sphinx was carved from the remains of a limestone hill that served as a quarry for the Cheops Pyramid. Remnants of paint on the Sphinx's ear suggest that the figure was originally painted in color. Thutmose IV erected the so-called Dream Stele between the paws of the Sphinx, the inscription on which tells of his life and his appointment as Pharaoh.
After these impressive impressions, we will drive you to your hotel where you will have time to relax. Before dinner, you will have the opportunity to admire the sound and light show at the pyramids.
Good night……..
